Promotion Policy of Multi Tasking Staff

Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) employees are the Group C central government employees that are hired through special SSC exam. Despite being one of the lowest ranks within the bureaucracy, there is extensive competition for this examination due to the low exam eligibility criteria of matriculation. Officially, the responsibilities of MTS SSC Jobs involves ferrying files from the minister’s room to the section office, keeping the office tidy, running errands, fetching tea and escorting guests. However, being a central government employee, the job has handsome pay compared to their private counterparts along with a host of perks and access to important people within the governmental machinery and even outside it. Despite the tough and exceeding competition, not much is known about the other aspects of MTS staff. One such aspect is the promotion policy and career progression prospects for the employees. To decode this, we shall discuss the Promotion Policy of MTS Staff hired in different ministries through Staff Selection Commission Exams.

Promotion Policy of MTS Employees within the Central Government

The MTS Employees are very important part of the bureaucracy, especially when it comes to completing the daily operations of different departments. MTS Employees are hired in CCAS cadre (Central Civil Accounts Service) of the Group C and are offered promotions within this group on the basis of seniority. Generally they are promoted to the post of LDC (Lower Division Clerks) and appointed in different governmental departments and ministries if found fit for promotions.

  • To be considered for promotion, MTS Employees have to complete three years regular service at their current post with the Grade Pay of Rs.1800
  • The selection would be based upon ‘seniority cum fitness’ basis on the basis of promotion list submitted by respective ministries
  • Selected MTS Employees have to also clear a computer literacy test conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to be eligible for the  promotion

Despite being one of the lowest ranking Government Job, many graduates have also shown a keen interest in the SSC MTS exam. The recent hike provided by the 7th Pay Commission has further consolidated the interest in this job. However, many people who are unaware of the promotion policy within MTS cadre are disappointed after joining. To avoid any such instances, please consider the aforementioned promotion policy and career progression opportunity before applying.
